Geography

What we say about Geography at Minety Primary School...

“Geography is fun, fantastic and adventurous…I have enjoyed learning about countries, maps and the environment.” Tyler

"I love Geography because you learn about the world, the oceans, where people live and their traditions." Esmae

"Geography is an important subject because when I am a man, I will know about the world"  James

"Geography as a subject is exciting, topical, fascinating and fun.  At Minety Primary School we strive to develop in pupils a lifelong sense of curiosity and wonder about the world, its places and people. Geography also fosters the development of respect, responsibility and resourcefulness, valuable life skills that will remain with pupils forever." Mrs Griffin (Subject Leader).

Curriculum Intent

Geography is essentially about understanding the world we live in. It helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. At Minety C of E Primary School children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. The geography curriculum enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferrable to other curriculum areas. Geography is an investigative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills. At Minety C of E Primary School our intent, when teaching geography, is to inspire in children a curiosity, respect and fascination about the world and people within it; to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

We are committed to creating a positive, safe and nurturing Christian environment, where all members of the school community will be respected and valued and SHINE. By SHINE in Geography we mean children:

  • Sparkle – explore, appreciate and understand the world in which we live.
  • Help – protect our planet and its resources.
  • Imagine - ask important questions about the world.
  • Nurture – show responsibility towards other people and the environment.
  • Excel – develop excellent geographical skills and knowledge.

Our Curriculum
